How to deal with Anxiety?

While anxiety disorders are treatable with medical help and counselling, there are many who are reluctant to take medicines. Consequently, alternative treatments and therapies have become increasingly popular. These alternative treatments help managing the symptoms of anxiety in more natural ways with usually fewer side effects. However, it’s important to understand that these alone are not enough to treat anxiety, particularly where severe cases are concerned. Either way, it’s always best to speak to a trained medical professional before starting any kind of treatment.

1. Eat Balanced Diet

A balanced diet is always a good choice. What you put into your body definitely impacts how you feel. So reduce and if possible, avoid things like sugar, processed food, fried food, alcohol and caffeine. These put additional stress on the body and in many cases aggravate the symptoms of anxiety.

2. Exercise Daily

Exercise is a great stress buster and helps improve overall mood and wellbeing. Developing a regular fitness routine can help one feel more in control of their body and mind, which can further help uplift mood.

3. Take proper Rest

Not sleeping enough can put pressure on the body and mind, leading to stress, depleted energy and negative thoughts. On an average, try to sleep at least 7 – 8 hours every night.

4. Practice relaxation

Many relaxation exercises and techniques exist in the world today that improve the way we respond to stress. Mindfulness, deep breathing, muscle relaxation and yoga are just some kinds of practices that can have a positive impact on overall health and wellbeing.
