Agoraphobia is fear/ anxiety in situations from which escape might be difficult. It significantly interferes with a person’s ability to function in work & social situations outside the home.
Patients with Agoraphobia prefer to be accompained by a friend or a family member when leaving home. Severely affected patients may simply refuse to leave the house.
Epidemiology:
Onset: Most cases have onset in later adolescence & early adulthood.
Comorbidity:
Most common comorbidity associated with Agoraphobia is Panic Disorder. Agoraphobia can either precede or follow Panic Disorder.
